Improper slitter set-up is the source of many problems within the winding process. It produces web breaks, excessive dusting, and, ultimately, increased waste and reduced product marketability. Despite its importance to the success of the slitting process, slitter set-up doesn’t always receive the respect and attention it justly deserves. Operators often take for granted the task of setting up slitters. Through a better understanding of slitter blade problems and their impact on the finishing area’s bottom line, operators can effectively avoid these costly problems and boost productivity and profitability.
